3 Top Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Mascara

If you’ve ever worn mascara before I’m sure you’ll know all about panda eyes: you put mascara on in the morning and by lunchtime it’s smudged everywhere.

I hear it all. the. time.  And believe me, I’ve been there too.  But not anymore!

Here are my top tips for getting the most out of your mascara:

Use a high quality mascara

I’ve been using Senegence Lashsense Mascara range for 3 years now and I can vouch for its ability to keep the panda eyes at bay.

It comes in two shades – black and black brown – in both water resistant AND waterproof formulas, for those really watery eyes.

Lashsense by Senegence is infused with Capixyl, which stimulates hair growth to help provide fuller and thicker lashes.  Adding one coat instantly defines and extends lashes, and two coats created full volume, high impact lashes.

And the best part is, it’s going to stay put until you decide to take it off.  I take mine off with Melt-Away Cleansing Balm.  Gentle on your skin and the perfect way to break down any mascara you have on you lashes.

Warm it up

A little bit like when coconut oil is heated it turns to liquid, Lashsense by Senegence performs best when it’s warm.  It doesn’t liquify, but it definitely becomes a little bit more malleable.

There are a couple of different ways to do this, but my favourites are:

Hot water:

Fill a glass with boiling hot water and sit the mascara tube in it for 5 – 10 minutes.  The longer you can leave it in the better, and when you take it out to use it, you’ll find the product much easier to apply.

Body Heat

If you’re anything like me, mascara is the last thing you apply, and it’s usually what I do just before I jump out of the car, so it very rarely gets put on at home.  Warming it up in hot water won’t work here!

Instead I use my body heat.  Either down my top, under my arms or under my legs as I sit, these are all great ways to heat up mascara.

Tuck it away in one of those places as you start your makeup and it will be well and truly warmed up and ready to use when you need it.

Don’t ‘pump’ it

While it may sound like a good idea to ‘pump’ the mascara wand in and out to coat the wand and make sure it gets enough product on it, in reality all you are doing is adding air into the tube which is going to dry out your mascara and you’ll end up with the tube being clogged up and the wand coming out with clumps on it.

Instead, pull it out slowly, twisting while you go.  This will stop the air finding its way in, and give you a nice, even coat on the wand.

Dispose of your mascara after 6 months

Even if you think your tube of mascara has some life left in it, mascara is only formulated to last up to 6 months, so it’s really important, especially when we’re talking about eye products, to not use it longer than its expiry date.  This can lead to irritation or infection around your eye area.
